Why It Matters

Play is crucial for child development, supporting physical strength, emotional regulation, creativity, and social skills. Traditional playgrounds often leave children with physical or sensory challenges on the sidelines, where an inclusive playground fosters empathy, friendship, and equal opportunity.

Our new Riverside playground will create equity in play by:

  • Encouraging peer interaction and inclusive friendships
  • Providing safe spaces for sensory processing and calming breaks
  • Allowing mobility device users to navigate and participate fully
  • Demonstrating to all children that diversity is welcomed and valued
  • Our Vision
    Our vision is to build a playground where everyone belongs. Because it’s not just about allowing children with disabilities to engage, but allowing all children to play together in a way that makes sense to them.
  • How to Donate
    Please make checks payable to Brainerd Public School and include Riverside Accessible Playground in memo line. Checks can be mailed to Riverside Elementary, 220 NW 3rd St, Brainerd, MN, 56401.

Three Phase Plan & Sponsorship Opportunites

  • Phase One                          ✔

    Using capital funds provided by the district and donations, Phase One will bring age-accessible equipment for our newly added preschool section and is on track to be constructed in the summer of 2025.

     

    Phase Two                            $730,000

    The most significant investment of our fundraiser comes in phase two (our current fund drive). It brings a large, universally accessible structure that includes free-standing pieces, accessible platforms, sensory boards, slides, and more.

     

    Phase Three                           $50,000

    Our third and final phase will replace our zipline with an accessible zipline and additional swings.

  • $1 - $9,000 Playground Builders

    • Acknowledge your support with a thank-you card or certificate of appreciation.
    • Name on a recognition wall or website.
    • A thank-you shout-out on social media.

    $10,000 - $99,000 Community Champions

    • Personalized thank-you note from the project team.
    • Name and or Logo on a larger recognition display in the park.
    • A thank-you shout-out on social media

    $100,000 - $499,000 Legacy Makers

    • A special thank-you video from the team.
    • Name and or Logo on a larger recognition display in the park.
    • VIP access to the playground opening event.
    • Feature in press releases and local media (if desired).

    $500,000 Limitless Visionary

    • A special thank-you video from the team.
    • A framed photos from the opening and naming rights for a major feature (e.g., the main entrance, a large play structure).
